How to analyse a subset of hits ?

Sometimes you could be interested in analysing just a subset of the hits reported in a Blast result. For example, it can be quite interesting to display the query-anchored sequence alignment (MSA Viewer of KoriBlast) created only with user selected hits.

This is very easy to do, and KoriBlast offers several ways to select hits and display them in a new Blast result.

1. From the Analyse Module, case 1. Select the hits of interest on the Hit list; selection is made by using the mouse with or without Ctrl (Windows and Linux), Cmd (MacOS only) or Shift keys to do extended selection. Then click on the buttonselect_btn.pngto create a separate result containing only your selection of hits. The following figures illustrate this.

2. From the Analyse Module, case 2. Instead of selecting some hits 'as is', you can select them using a filter; as a reminder, KoriBlast offers a data filtering system that enables you to query the Blast results and sequence data using some contraints. For example, you could be interested in the selection of only the first HSP of each hit reported in a Blast result; if you look at the previous figures, you can see (column '# HSPs') that some hits contain several HSPs.

To do such a selection, proceed as follows. Start by selecting the hits on which you want to apply the filter (select all hits by pressing keys 'Ctrl' and 'a' on Windows and Linux, or 'Cmd' and 'a' on MacOSX), then click on the buttonopenRes_sf.png.

The Filter Manager dialogue box pops up where you can select or create your filter.

In this example, we choose to create a new filter:

When your filter is ready, click on the [Ok] button of the Filter Manager dialogue box to apply your filter on the previously selected hits. You end up with a new Blast resul that holds the hits that conform to the filter constraints:

3. From the Search Module. Applying a filter on a Blast result can be done from the Search Module. This is very easy to do: select one (or many) query results, then click on the button.

The Filter Manager dialogue box pops up where you can select or create your filter. As soon as the job result has been filtered, it is opened in the Analyse Module.
