Starting with KoriBlast 3.1, it is possible to share a common configuration between several KoriBlast users.
For that purpose, the user in charge of installing/managing a KoriBlast installation, hereafter called ${KBAdmin}, will have to do some file management on the server computer running KoriBlast.
In the rest of this section, ${KBHomeDir} will target the directory where KoriBlast has been installed. By default, ${KBHomeDir} is /Applications/KoriBlast on MacOS, c:\Programs\KoriBlast (Windows Vista and Seven) and /opt/KoriBlast on Linux systems. For Genostar's Metabolic Pathway Builder, the home directory of the KoriBlast plugin is ${IogmaHomeDir}/plugins/korilog.koriblast.
The preparation of the multi-user environment can be done even when some people have already used KoriBlast. However, during this process, noboby should use the software.
The following procedure has to be done once, at any time:
if you update from KoriBlast 2.x/3.0 to KoriBlast 3.1 or above, do the following: first run the procedure explained below (Preparing the multi-user environment), then run the KoriBlast 3.x (x>=1) Installation Wizard to update to KoriBlast 3.x. -
if you install KoriBlast for the first time, then install the software and run it at least once. Quit the software, then apply the procedure called 'Preparing the multi-user environment'.
-
Preparing the multi-user environment:
- Create the directory
${KBHomeDir}Share/conf, e.g. MacOSX: /Applications/KoriBlastShare/conf, Windows: c:\Programs\KoriBlastShare\conf, Linux: /opt/KoriBlastShare/conf,
Genostar Platform: create a directory called korilog.koriblastShare/conf within the directory plugins of Iogma.
- Copy all the files from
${KBHomeDir}/conf to ${KBHomeDir}Share/conf ; e.g. on Windows, do a copy of the content from c:\Programs\KoriBlast\conf to c:\Programs\KoriBlastShare\conf
- Set RW permissions on
${KBHomeDir}Share/conf for ${KBAdmin} only, and R permission for all other users
That's it.
How the ${KBAdmin} user of KoriBlast update the multi-user configuration ?
Answer: from the Search Module of KoriBlast. User ${KBAdmin} starts a session of KoriBlast, go into the Search Module, New Search panel. When using WWW Blast, Grid Blast, NCBI Blast or EBI Blast, all updates made on the list of databanks are automatically copied to ${KBHomeDir}Share/conf. Then, each time a « standard user » of KoriBlast starts a session of the software, his/her configuration is automatically updated to match the configuration available from ${KBHomeDir}Share/conf.
It is worth noting that this automatic update mechanism takes place only for the list of sequence databanks available for use with WWW Blast, Grid Blast, NCBI Blast or EBI Blast.
The use of the Preferences dialogue box of KoriBlast enables to update the rest of the configuration of the software, as follows.
When the ${KBAdmin} has updated a section in the Preferences dialogue box, he/she just has to click on the « Save as defaults » button to store the configuration within the directory ${KBHomeDir}Share/conf.
Then, user ${KBAdmin} informs all KoriBlast users to do a « Restore defaults » on the updated preference sections from their KoriBlast/Preferences dialogue box.
