Store information in a safe place All your work is saved in a disc space that is inaccessible to third parties, and each KoriBlast user has his own storage space.
Are your sequences confidential? KoriBlast enables you to work by running a local Blast system (1) or a WwwBlast system (2). In the first case you may work exclusively on your computer, no information is broadcast on a computer network. In the second case you may run a WwwBlast server installed in your laboratory and no information will be broadcast outside your intranet.
(1) KoriBlast comes with NCBI Blast software: You can therefore use Blast on your computer with your personal sequence databases and/or a local copy of public sequence databases (SwissProt, Genbank, etc.) as required.
(2) you probably have a server like this in your laboratory. If this is this case, Koriblast can use it directly.
Keep a global work history Don't lose your essential data anymore! KoriBlast stores all the information you use on the hard disc indefinitely. Blast sequences, searches and results; information retrieved from remote databases (annotations and taxonomic data) and search strategies. KoriBlast can thus store as much data as the size of your hard disc allows.
It is important to note that the storage of your work in a personal space enables you to analyse your data off-line, when you are out of the office for example.
Not only does the saving of search strategies store parameters used to explore sequence databases on your disc, it also lets you reuse your strategies at regular intervals over time. This makes it very easy for you to compare your sequences with the various versions of a database to discover the new sequences related to your search subject.
Manage personal Blast databases You can schedule your own databank sequences to run them with Blast on your computer. KoriBlast offers a highly simple graphical interface to convert your sets of sequences into a Blast database. When the conversion is complete the database can immediately be used with the NCBI Blast system supplied as standard with KoriBlast.
Similarly, you can install the main public sequence databases on your computer (SwissProt, UniProt, Genbank, etc.) in order to work off-line.
